Studying the Retail Experience
May 2008

Patrick is leading a study looking at the UK retail experience and has identified which retail brands offer the best shopping experience. The study uses data provided by Which? and online consumer ratings site Ciao! Each retailer was given a score based on a combination of quality of service and the in-store experience.
Of the 71 brands in the survey, Waitrose was first with John Lewis second. These two were well ahead of any other retailer.
Pat said, “Waitrose and John Lewis, which are both owned by the John Lewis partnership, were way ahead of any other UK retailer in terms of the experience that they offer their customers. Over the next few months we will be taking an in-depth look at what it is that makes the experience of shopping with them so special and look at the lessons that other retailers can learn.”
Waterstones, DFS and Body Shop made up the rest of the top five.

Nordcode Keynote
May 2008
Pat is to be keynote speaker at this year’s annual Nordcode Conference which will be held in Lund, Sweden, from 28 to 30 May.
The Nordcode organisation offers a regular series of conferences and critiques for students from the Nordic countries who are working towards PhD’s in design and design-related topics.
Patrick says, “The Nordcode series of conferences is a great opportunity for research students to get together to discuss their work, get input from each other and from the academics, researchers and practitioners that they invite along. Having already been to one Nordcode event this year I have been very impressed by what they are doing and am delighted to have been invited to give this year’s keynote.”
ICT Annual Forum Estonia
May 2008
Pat has been announced as Keynote Speaker at this year’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) Annual Forum which will be held in Tallinn in Estonia from September 11 to September 12. The event will focus on new developments in the field and Patrick will be focussing on how lifestyle trends will affect the demand for future services.
Pat says, “As former Vice President of Symbian I am well aware of what a fast moving and high-tech industry ICT is. The speed at which Estonia and the other Baltic nations have developed in this area is amazing and ICT has provided both a huge boost to the economy as well as great opportunities for entrepreneurship.”
We will post a link to the forum’s website when it becomes available.
